Softball Splits Opener at Rochester Dome Games

ROCHESTER, Minn. - The Spartans opened their season against a strong competition on Saturday inside the warm confines of the Rochester Dome. UD opened with a 0-7 loss to St. Catherine's, but rallied back to hold the UW-Platteville Pioneers scoreless in a 5-0 victory for pitcher Lexi Schmidt. In the loss UD was held to three hits which included a pair of doubles, one each to Lauren Donaire and Brooke Goodman. UD stranded five runners on base.
In the second game, the Spartans scored five runs off six hits. Kaylin Featheringill had the hot bat after collecting two hits and two RBI's in the victory. Kylee Biedermann and Rachel Trader would each finish with an RBI. Schmidt earned the win after allowing eight hits, one walk while striking out one.
Spartans continue with a doubleheader on Sunday, March 1 with Blackburn College at 8 a.m. and against top-ranked St. Thomas at 12 p.m.
