Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. - The University of Dubuque volleyball team hit the road on Tuesday night, coming away with their second consecutive sweep, this time sweeping the Edgewood College Eagles, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-20).

The Spartans got off to a slow start in the first set, falling behind 12-7 before they started to find their grove. UD would slowly make up the ground before finally tying the set up at 18 all. After trading the next two points to get the score knotted at 19 all, the Spartans would rattle off six of the final eight points to take the set and get out to the 1-0 lead.

UD would once again fall behind in the second set, this time just 3-0 and quickly took their first lead of the set at 5-4 and would never trail for the rest of the set to take a commanding 2-0 set lead. The Spartans would not make the same mistake for a third time and tallied the first four points of the third set and would never look back, taking the set 25-20 to sweep the match.

The Spartans posted 37 kills on Tuesday night with a hitting percentage of nearly .300 at .299. Two Spartans reached double figures in kills with Kara Wright leading the way with 13 and Grace Hintze following with 10. The Spartans would assist on 36 of their 37 kills, with 26 of the 36 assists coming off the hands of sophomore Kate Messino. 

Four different Spartans recorded a service ace against the Eagles, led by Shauna McAleer who served three aces.

The Spartans return home this weekend when they host Central College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night in the Stoltz Sports Center.
