"DART Senior Thesis Art Show" Celebrates Work Completed by Students

By University Relations Staff

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque's Bisignano Art Gallery will close the 2023-2024 season with a celebration of work completed by graduating seniors in the Department of Digital Art and Design.

The "DART Senior Thesis Art Show" is free and open to the public Wednesday, April 10, 2024, through Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the art gallery inside Heritage Center, 2255 Bennett Street. A variety of work in illustration, animation, digital painting, motion graphics, and digital artwork displays the wide range of skills students cultivated during their time at UD.

Each senior worked throughout the semester in their Senior Seminar class to showcase the immense breadth and voice of their talent. The students chose an independent and specific theme for their collection of pieces accompanied by a brief artist statement to describe their vision and passion as an artist as well as their gratitude to everyone who helped them to achieve their goal.

"We are honored and privileged in calling our students family," said Sheila Sabers, MAC, head of the Department of Digital Art and Design and assistant professor of digital art and design. "We love the journey of witnessing the development of their creativity and contribution to society through their unique talents and perspectives - some through their four years at the University and some as they return after years away to finish their DART degree. Unfortunately, this past year we lost a beloved family member, student Urias Gbarjolo, who would have graduated with this Class of 2024. We mourn his passing and cherish the memories of his bright spirit and potential."

Poster artwork for the "DART Senior Thesis Art Show" was designed by Jenna Benzing, a senior digital art and design major from Caledonia, Minnesota, who will graduate Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Gallery hours are noon to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The art gallery is also open in conjunction with all major events in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center.
