Over 100 Band Students to Participate in the University of Dubuque High School Honor Band

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Over 100 band students from 25 high schools in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin will participate in the University of Dubuque High School Honor Band on Friday, January 16, 2026. Hosted by UD's Department of Fine and Performing Arts, the all-day event will culminate with a free public student concert at 7:00 p.m. in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center.

The University of Dubuque High School Honor Band is an annual event held since 2020 for talented band students in grades 9 through 12 to spend the day making music with Nolan Hauta, DMA, director of concert bands and associate professor of music, and Evan Glickman, DMA, director of jazz and athletic bands and assistant professor of music.

Students will participate in a full day of rehearsals, receive a campus tour, and enjoy a complimentary lunch. The event will end with an evening concert. Hauta will be the concert's conductor with Glickman as a xylophone soloist.

"Overall, I hope the students have a meaningful, memorable, and musical experience," Hauta said. "Perhaps the 100-plus member band is the largest band they have ever played in. Maybe John and Alice Butler Hall is the most amazing place they have ever performed. Sharing the stage with xylophone soloist Evan Glickman will be a special treat too. This event is about collaboration and achieving a goal, a concert, in one day. Hopefully the students will have a good experience at the University of Dubuque and will be back - either in the University of Dubuque High School Honor Band or as a UD student."
