UDSNA's Run for Redman to Raise Money for University of Dubuque Family Member

By University Relations Staff

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Student Nursing Association (UDSNA) will host Run for Redman on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Derby Grange Golf & Recreation Center, 13079 Derby Grange Road. Fifty percent of the proceeds will benefit the nursing program and 50 percent will benefit Everett Redman, a two-year-old who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in June 2023 and is the son of Andrew Redman, assistant baseball coach at UD.

Check-in and registration the day of the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. The 5K run/walk will start at 9:00 a.m.

Cost of the 5K run/walk is $20. Participants may also register online until 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024. However, participants who want a T-shirt must register online by 11:59 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2024. To register, please visit https://runsignup.com/Race/IA/Dubuque/run4redman.

Miniature golf will also be available during Run for Redman for $5 for kids and $6 for adults as well as food. Festivities will end at 11:30 a.m.

Additionally, UDSNA will be accepting any size tie blankets that the student organization will donate to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics' pediatric oncology floor in Iowa City, Iowa.

Everett, who loves trucks, tractors, and farm animals, had surgery to remove approximately 25 percent of the brain tumor in July 2023 and started chemotherapy in late September 2023. Everett's most recent scan showed the tumor was stable with no growth. He is completing 12 rounds of chemotherapy treatments at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

UDSNA regularly hosts fundraisers for student events and to help send students to nursing conferences throughout the school year. This year, the student organization that strives to support nursing and pre-nursing students during their education wanted to promote wellness in their events and fundraisers.

"We thought a 5K run/walk would be a great opportunity to get people outside and active this spring," said Madelyn Huschitt, a senior nursing major and president of UDSNA, adding. "When we heard about everything the Redman family was going through, we couldn't help but think about how we could help. We thought, what better way to incorporate their family than into our 5K run/walk event."

Run for Redman is also supported by Derby Grange Golf & Recreation Center and the Huschitt family. The event will be held rain or shine, unless there is lightening.

After Run for Redman, a doubleheader baseball game between UD and Nebraska Wesleyan University will begin at noon Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Dan W. Runkle Baseball Field.
