Barwick Repeats as First Team Academic All-District

DUBUQUE, IOWA - University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer student-athlete Ashley Barwick (Appleton, Wis./Xavier) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 Division III First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-American Team ballot, where first, second, and third team All-American honorees will be selected later this month.

In 2012, Barwick has scored one goal while defending the opposition’s biggest offensive threat on the defensive side of the field. The Spartans defense set a school record by going 524 minutes without allowing a goal. Behind the strong defense, UD also broke the school record for consecutive wins with six.

An accounting and business administration major, Barwick owns a cumulative GPA of 4.00. She has also been named to the Dean’s List six times, is a Wendt Character Scholarship winner, Presidential Scholar, and is the editor of the Belltower.

Barwick has been the lead defender for the past three seasons and is a four year starter for the Spartans. In her four years at UD the defense has produced 27 shutouts. The senior defender has scored five goals and assisted on two others in 67 games played. Dubuque has qualified for the Iowa Conference (IIAC) Tournament in each of the last four years, winning the title in 2009.

A 2011 First Team Academic All-District performer, Barwick has been named Academic All-Iowa Conference in 2010 and 2011 for Women’s Soccer and Women’s Basketball. She was also named IIAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Performer of the Week in 2011.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will play in the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship game on Saturday, November 3rd at Loras College. Game time is 5:00 pm. The winner of the game will receive the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA DIII Championships Tournament.
