Galvin Earns IIAC Performer of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Simpson basketball player Kate Nielsen and Buena Vista basketball player Cole Darrow have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 13, 2013. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in seven winter sports.

University of Dubuque freshman Tyrone Galvin (Madison, Wis./Madison East) was named IIAC Men's Indoor Track and Field (Track) Performer of the Week. In his first college meet, Galvin won the 200m Dash at the Sol Butler Classic. Galvin's 23.07 run in the 200m Dash was the ninth fastest time in school history. He also finished third in 55m Dash at 6.55 seconds, good for the 45th fastest time in Division III. Galvin also finished in second in the Long Jump with a jump of 23' 0.5" (7.02m), the second best distance in school history.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will travel to UW-Whitewater on Saturday, January 19th to take part in the Karl Schlender Invitational.
