Hookstead Named IIAC Performer of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that the four MVPs of this past weekend's Iowa Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship -- Central College senior Felicia Coleman, Simpson College junior Joe Farrand, and Wartburg College sophomores Kayla Hemann and Colt Feltes -- have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 24, 2013. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in men's and women's basketball and men's tennis.

University of Dubuque senior Miles Hookstead (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) has been named IIAC Men’s Basketball Performer of the Week. Hookstead helped the Spartans to their first Iowa Conference Tournament Championship with his first double-double of the year against Wartburg. He finished with a season high 17 points and 10 rebounds in the title game. As a team, the Spartans boast the league’s top scoring defense at 61.4 points per game and top scoring margin at +9.6 points per game. UD also leads the league in 3-Point Field Goal Percentage Defense (30.6%), Steals (199), and Turnover Margin per game (+2.07).

The Spartans will face-off against the Division III defending Champion UW-Whitewater Warhawks on Saturday, March 2nd in the 1st Round of the NCAA DIII Championships. UD is making its first tournament appearance since 1990 and fifth overall. Dubuque is currently on a seven game winning streak.

Hookstead is the second Spartan to win Men’s Basketball Performer of the Week this season. Chris Frazier (Heidelberg, Germany/Heidelberg) won the award on December 12, 2012.
