Spartans Suffer Loss in First Ever Varsity Lacrosse Match

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI - The University of Dubuque Women's Lacrosse played their first game in school history on Saturday, March 9th but lost 16-4 to Fontbonne University (1-1). The young Spartans team scored the games final three goals to close out the teams first action of the season.

UD's first goal of the game and in the programs history came at the 16:44 mark of the opening half by Judy Borah (Mammoth Lakes, Calif./Palisades Charter). Borah would finish the day with three goals and one assist. 

The Spartans found the back of the net again with Nicole Pacheco (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail) scoring with 10:58 left of the second period. Borah scored her second of the game with 3:02 and added their third of the day with just :18 seconds remaining in the game.

Dionna Atwood (Melrose Park, Ill./Jones College Prep) faced 22 shots on goal and made six saves as goalie for the Spartans. 

The Spartans finished with nine shots and eight being on goal. Fontbnne finished with 25 shots with 22 being on goal.

UD collected 11 ground balls in the first period and added eight in the second half. UD had 15 turnovers and also forced Fontbone into committing 15 turnovers. Fontbonne was 4-4 in clears by period.

The Spartans are 0-1 overall.
