Women’s Tennis Sets Wins Record

GALESBURG, ILLINOIS – The University of Dubuque Women’s Tennis team set a new school record on Thursday night with their seventh win of the season. The Spartans also improved to 3-1 in the spring season with the 5-3 win over Knox College. UD is 7-8 overall this season with five road victories.

The Spartans succeeded in singles play by taking four of six matches. UD clinched the victory with a 8-4 win at #3 Doubles by Stephanie LoCasto (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) and Samantha Serd (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead). Singles victories came from Ashley Schlueter (Hiawatha, Iowa/Kennedy) at #2, Aoi Karino (Yokota, Japan/Yokota) at #4, Janine Wegner (Pittsville, Wis./Pittsville) at #5, and Serd at #6.

Wegner posted the most lopsided victory of the day with her 6-2, 6-1 win at #5 Singles.

The #2 Doubles match for Schlueter and Wegner went unfinished because of time restraints.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will play the last home match of the year on April 24th against Augustana College. Senior Nichole Schmaltz will be honored.
