Women's Cross Country Takes Ninth at Les Duke Invite

GRINNELL, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Cross Country team was finally able to get their season started after having the first scheduled race of the year cancelled because of heat. The Spartans came ready to run at the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College taking ninth place in the 12 team field. The top finisher for UD was Brenda Nava (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) in 27th place with a time of 24:36 on the 6K course. Nava improved on her personal best time by nine seconds to move into ninth place all-time at UD. 

Rachael Busjahn (Sobieski, Wis./Pulaski) was the second finisher for the Spartans at 25:15 to take 38th overall. Busjahn improved her personal best time by 25 seconds and jumped into 13th place all-time. Freshman Fabiola Ortiz (Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) placed 43rd overall in her first collegiate race with a time of 25:27, the 15th best time in UD history. Junior Sam Holen (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) improved on her personal best lowering her time to 25:29, a one minute and four second improvement. 

UP NEXT: The Spartans will compete on Friday, September 27th at the Brissman-Lundeen Invite hosted by Augustana College at 5:00 pm.
