CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA — The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Wartburg College women's golfer Rochelle Beardsley and soccer player Cade Shatzer have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 6. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in seven fall sports.

University of Dubuque linebacker Blaine Snitker (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon) was named IIAC Football (Defensive) Performer of the Week. The sophomore outside linebacker finished with 7 tackles (five solo), a sack, and an interception in which he returned 31 yards for a touchdown in the Spartans 23-21 victory over Central College. His interception return for a TD gave Dubuque a 10-7 lead late in the second quarter. Snitker had three tackles on third downs which forced Central punts including a key sack in the fourth quarter to end a Central drive near midfield.

UD kicker Curtis Prull (Monticello, Iowa/Monticello) also earned IIAC Football (Special Teams) Performer of the Week honors.

On the season, Snitker leads UD with 35 tackles (22-solo) and 3.5 tackles for a loss. His 31 yard INT return is the longest for the Spartans this season.

Snitker is the first Spartan to win IIAC Football (Defensive) Performer of the Week since the football awards were split into Offense, Defense, and Speical Teams in 2009. Snitker's brother Cody won the award on November 10th, 2010 for Loras College. The last UD defensive player to win IIAC Football Player of the Week was Walner Belleus on October 1, 2006.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will host Luther College on October 12th for Homecoming. Game time at Chalmers Field is 2:00 pm.
