Spartans Downed by Norse

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team rallied late in the third set before the visiting Luther College Norse captured the final set 25-23 to take the match 3-0. Luther captured the opening set with strong hitting 25-20 and held the Spartans hitters at bay in the second set by a 25-14 score.

The loss dropped the Spartans record 8-14 overall and 1-3 in the IIAC. Luther improved to 13-12 overall and 2-2 in the IIAC. 

UD's Caitlin Simbeck led the offense with eight kills and helped defensively with seven digs. Meggie Schmidt finished the night with 17 set assists for the Spartans. Fifteen of the Spartans made a game appearance in Wednesday's match in Stoltz SPorts Center.

The Spartans have three IIAC matches left and will continue Iowa Conference play on Oct. 16 at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, match scheduled for 7:30 p.m. start.
