BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team bounced back after a tough loss on Saturday against #14 Wartburg with a 2-1 victory over North Central College (6-6-3). The Spartans victory against NCC came as a result of two second half goals and numerous spectacular stops by the Dubuque defense. Dubuque is 5-9-1 overall and 4-4 on Oyen Field.

The Spartans and Cardinals played a scoreless first half with North Central having a 9-5 advantage in shots.

The excitement level picked up early in the second half when Spartans goalkeeper Jose Resendiz (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) stopped a NCC penalty kick in the 58th minute. Resendiz finished with four saves and one goal allowed to earn the win.

After 73 minutes without a goal, Gonzalo Hernandez (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Internacional Kolbe) broke the 0-0 tie with his goal on a breakaway where he outran the last defenders setting up a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper.  Andrew Guelle (Breckenheim, Germany/Heidelberg) assisted on the goal. North Central tied the game at 1-1 with a goal of their own just over one minute after the Spartans goal.

Brandon Wiley (Mannheim, Germany/Mannheim) put UD ahead for good with his goal in the 82nd minute on a rebound after re-entering the game four minutes earlier. Wiley cleaned up in front of the goal after a shot by Guelle bounced off the goalkeepers outreached hands.

Hernandez finished with a team high three shots with including two shots on goal.

UD has won four of their last six games.
