BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team left little doubt that they would be celebrating a victory on Senior Day. The Spartans came away with a 6-0 victory over Buena Vista (2-15-1, 0-6) on Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field. UD held a 33-3 advantage in shots for the game including a 19-1 lead in the first period. Dubuque is 13-4 overall, 4-2 in the Iowa Conference, and 9-1 at home.

The Spartans started the scoring in the 17th minute on a header from Katie Lynn (Fox River Grove, Ill./Barrington) off a corner kick from Melissa Sawyer (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North). Lynn and Sawyer would connect again just over five minutes later to give UD a 2-0 lead. The second goal would also come on a corner kick in which Sawyer put the ball right at Lynn's feet for a quick touch and shot.

Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) put UD ahead 3-0, 67 seconds later at the 23:58 mark of the first half. Kelsey Graefen (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) set up Watkins with a pass over the heads of the BV defense in which Watkins out ran the defenders and crossed up the keeper for the goal. The goal for Watkins was her team high 13th of the year, tying her for 10th place all-time at UD for single season goals.

UD finished the first half with a 19-1 lead in shots and a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Spartans had eight corner kicks to only one from Buena Vista.

The second half was once again all UD with Liz Frazier (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) starting the scoring in the 57th minute when she hit a liner from 35 yards out that hit the crossbar and bounced in. Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) found the back of the net in the 66th minute after a long pass from Watkins cleared the Beaver defense and forced the BV goalkeeper to leave the box to chase the ball. Siepler side-stepped the goalie leaving an open net for her eight goal of the year.

Dubuque would score again in the 85th minute after a Buena Vista foul set up a free kick opportunity. Shelby Nicholson (Wonder Lake, Ill./Woodstock North) sent her kick to towards the box where her former high school team mate Haylee Nutter (Wonder Lake, Ill./Woodstock North) was waiting to redirect the kick for her first career goal.

Tiffany Duncan (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) and Chelsea Hawkins (Maryland Heights, Mo./Pattonville) combined for the shutout in goal. Duncan played 74:48 and stopped the only shot on goal BV had in the game. Hawkins played the last 15:12 in goal.

UD out shot BV 33-3 for the game with a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal. 25 Spartans played in the game. After the game, seniors Watkins, Caitlyn Crane (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo), and Megan Strawn (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) were honored for as part of Senior Day activities.

Siepler led UD with eight shots and four shots on goal. Lynn had seven shots and scored on both of her shots on goal.

The Spartans remained perfect all-time versus Buena Vista pushing their record to 13-0 including ten shutouts.
