Spartans Finish Regular Season at 14-4

INDIANOLA, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 1-0 win against Simpson College (4-15-1, 2-4-1) on Tuesday afternoon. The victory was the fourth straight and sixth in seven games for the Spartans. Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) game winning goal was the 12th of her career, tying a school record. Dubuque finished the regular season with a 14-4-0 record and tied for second place in the Iowa Conference at 5-2.

The Spartans scored the only goal of the game in the 33rd minute when Watkins beat the Storm goalkeeper on a breakaway. Melanie Prudhomme (Lakemoor, Ill./Wauconda) setup the goal with a long looping pass from midfield that sailed over the defenders head to Watkins. Watkins controlled the ball and scored from ten yards out.

UD led Simpson 1-0 at the half while holding a 10-1 lead in shots and a 8-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Tiffany Duncan (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) earned the win with two saves and no goals allowed. The win was Duncan’s 22nd as a Spartan, tying her for second all-time at Dubuque.

Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) led the Spartan offense with six shots including four shots on goal.

Dubuque has beat Simpson five straight times by a total score of 18-1 including four consecutive shutouts.
