Pair of PK's End Spartans Season

INDIANOLA, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team had its 2013 season come to an end in the 1st Round of the Iowa Conference Tournament. The fifth seeded Spartans loss to fourth seeded Simpson 2-1 with both Storm goals coming on Penalty Kicks. Daniel Morris (Heidelberg, Germany/Heidelberg) scored in the 85th minute as UD attempted a late comeback. Dubuque ends the season with a 6-11-1 overall record. 

The Spartans went into halftime with a one goal deficit. Simpson took advantage of a Dubuque hand ball in the box to score the only goal of the period. UD held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. 

Simpson took a 2-0 lead in the 76th minute on another penalty kick, this time after UD was called for a foul in the box. The Spartans pulled within one after the goal by Morris in the 85th minute. Brandon Wiley (Mannheim, Germany/Mannheim) assisted on the goal. UD was unable to get a shot off in the last five to minutes, ending the game at 2-1. 

The two teams combined for 11 Yellow Cards in the match. 

Jose Resendiz (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) finished with eight saves and two goals allowed. 

Gonzalo Hernandez (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Internacional Kolbe) and Alassane Doukoure (Abidjan, Ivory Coast/Baumholder) had a team high two shots. 

UD qualified for the Iowa Conference Tournament for the seventh straight year.
