UD Receives $48,000 Grant from Council of Independent Colleges

The University of Dubuque was recently selected as a recipient of a NetVUE Program Development Grant in the amount of $48,000 from the Council of Independent Colleges.
One of 36 institutions selected nationwide, the University of Dubuque will use the grant monies to deepen the intellectual and theological exploration of vocation among undergraduate students. The grant is designed to extend existing programs that promote vocational exploration. The funding will enrich a shared understanding and common vocabulary regarding vocation. Vocational exploration will be embedded into three courses required of all undergraduate students. Students will develop an understanding of their personal strengths, engage in a service learning experience designed to promote civic engagement, and create a personal reflection on their vocation goals.
“This grant affirms the commitment of the undergraduate faculty to helping students uncover their purpose in life,” commented Mark Ward, vice president for academic affairs. “Faculty members and students will have increased opportunities to reflect on the nature of one’s calling/vocation through the resources and experiences funded through this generous grant.”
NetVUE is a nationwide network of colleges and universities rooted in the liberal arts who are particularly well suited to undertake the task of educating future leaders who are theologically literate, whose attitudes and behaviors are shaped by their values and commitments, and who are eager to sustain a life of service that is guided by a sense of calling. The Council of Independent Colleges’ NetVUE Program Development Grants are funded through the Lilly Endowment Inc.
