CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Loras basketball player Katie Langmeier and University of Dubuque basketball player Andre Norris (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 19, 2014. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in seven winter sports.
UD sophomore Andre Norris earned his fourth IIAC Men's Basketball Performer of the Week honor. Norris averaged 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as the Spartans went 2-0 on the week. The biggest play of the week came with the Spartans down late to Buena Vista on Saturday. Trailing by one with 11 seconds left in the game, Norris backed his way into the lane for a short jumper while also drawing a foul. Norris made the shot and free throw to give UD a 65-63 win and improve to 15-0. Dubuque is alone at the top of the conference at 4-0.
Norris is currently third in the Iowa Conference in points per game (17.2), blocks (17), and field goal percentage (60.9%). He is also second in field goals made (98) and ninth in rebounds per game (5.8). UD is one of five undefeated teams in Division-III and 13 remaining in the NCAA All-Divisions. As a team, the Spartans rank 25th in D-III for scoring margin (+12.6) and 33rd in scoring offense (83.3 points per game).
The Spartans forward is the first IIAC Men's Basketball player to earn four Performer of the Week honors since Scott Weber of Buena Vista won it five times in 2003-04. Norris was previously honored as Iowa Conference Performer of the Week on November 17th (Week 1), December 22nd (Week 6), and January 13th (Week 8).
