LINCOLN, NEBRASKA/MONMOUTH, ILLINOIS - The University of Dubuque Women's Track & Field team was busy competing in two meets over the weekend. The Spartans spent Friday at the Prairie Wolf Indoor Invitational at Nebraska Wesleyan, home of the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. UD then competed on Saturday at the Monmouth Midwest Indoor Invitational at Monmouth College. Taylor Cary (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) broke her own school record in the 60m Hurdles. The UD women finished fifth overall at Monmouth. There were no team scores at Nebraska Wesleyan.
The reigning Iowa Conference Women's Track Performer of the Week, Cary continued her outstanding indoor season with a record setting performance at the Prairie Wolf Invite. Cary finished with a time of 9.52 seconds in the 60m Hurdles, cutting 0.27 seconds off her time from 2013. UD also had success in the Women's 60m Hurdles at Monmouth with Jennifer Pohlman (West Branch, Iowa/West Branch) and Brittany Becker (Waterloo, Iowa/Waterloo East) qualifying for the finals. Pohlman finished fifth overall with a time of 10.0 seconds, the third fastest time in school history.
The UD women also found success in the weight throw with Katelyn Herbig (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central) finishing third at 14.41m (47' 3.5"). Nicole Forson (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) moved into second place all-time at UD with a throw of 13.46m (44' 2.0").
Freshman Amanda Zbilski (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Huntley) qualified for the finals of the 60m Dash. Zbilski finished fourth at 8.42 seconds, cutting .09 off her preliminary time.
