The Spartans (2-1) avenged a season-opening, walk-off defeat, and swept Greenville (Ill.) last Saturday with a combined 16 runs in their two victories. UD will head into its five-game, Spring Break trip against four Midwest schools, including Division II’s Northern State University, and conference-leading George Fox University from Oregon.
Amongst the five teams UD will play, George Fox (10-7, 6-3 Northwest Conference) is the only team who has started their season.
UD will be without leading hitter CF Trace Florek (455/.455/.636 slash line, five hits, one triple) due to injury, but will have the services of starters C Will Doherty (.363/.462/.636, four hits, one home run) and 3B Dalton Garst (.357/.400/.429, five hits, one double).
On the mound is senior LHP Tyler Trifiletti, who earned the no-decision after surrendering just one run and three hits in 7.0 innings in his first start of the season. Relievers, RHP Jacob Padilla and RHP Trent Van Egtern, have combined for 9.1 innings of scoreless relief.
