BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team collected the victory on Wednesday night and added their 10th student-athlete into the 1,000 point club in the 66-55 victory over the UW-La Crosse Eagles.

The Spartans Emily Brinker (Sr., Forward, Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo HS) was held to just eight points in the opening half of action. Needing just two points to reach the 1,000 plateau with 1:30 left in the game she would be fouled. The foul sent her to the free throw line where she made the first attempt, seconds later she would sink the second free throw and score her 1,000th career point at the line. She entered the evening with 980 career points and finished with 22 points and 10 defensive rebounds. She was a perfect 9-9 at the line. Madison Boer added eight points and four rebounds.

The Spartans played 14 student-athletes with 10 scoring in the win at home in Stoltz Sports Center. UD trailed after the first period 10-12, but rallied to take the lead to end the second period 20-16. The Eagles played the Spartans tight in the third period with UD holding a slim 14-13 scoring mark. Quick passes to the open offensive player in the fourth helped the Spartans extend their lead at home by out scoring the visiting Eagles 22-14 in the final period of action. The visiting Eagles out scored the Spartan bench 27-18, but UD battled in the paint to finish with 18 of their points inside. UD made 20-49 attempts from the field (40.8%), 6-17 at the three point arc (35.3%), and sank 20-24 free throw attempts (83.3%).

The Spartans will enjoy a brief Christmas break before travelling to Kentucky for the Transylvania Pat Deacon Classic on December 29-30 in Lexington.
