DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's lacrosse dominated a rainy, chilly Friday night under the lights of Oyen Field in a 14-7 victory over the visiting Northland College Lumberjills (0-10 overall).

The Spartans (5-2 overall) ended the night with 46 shots while the defense held the Lumberjills to 21 shots. Robyn Wittkopf led UD with six goals and two assists. Claire Carlson added four goals and one assist after 14 shots. Carlson led in ground balls with eight, Ashlyn Ptasienski collected seven ground balls as UD finished with 42 ground balls. Northland had 35 ground balls and won 11 draw controls. Jenna Runde won eight draw controls to lead the Spartans.

Goalie Kyra Nelson earned her first victory of the year after stopping nine of the 35 shots by the Lumberjills. 

On Saturday UD hosted the University of St. Mary Spires (Kans.) as rain fell heavy at times. UD fell behind in the opening half 4-8 and charged late to fall short 10-12. The Spartans scored five out of the final six goals in final 10 minutes. Claire Carlson led UD with four goals on 10 shots and teammate Robyn Wittkopf added three goals and an assist in her eight shots.

The Spartans led in shots 28-19 and in ground balls 32-28. Jessi Tapia led with seven ground balls, Wittkopf and Carlson each added six ground balls in loss. Kyra Nelson made six saves in her 60 minutes in goal. The Spartans (5-3 overall) will host Wartburg College Knights on Wednesday night on Oyen Field at 7:00 p.m on a re-scheduled contest from March 15 in Waverly.
