Cross Country Teams Prepare for NCAA Division III Regionals

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The University of Dubuque women's and men's cross country teams will travel north to compete in the 2016 NCAA Divisonal III Regionals hosted by Carleton College on Saturday, Nov. 12.

The University of Dubuque Women’s Cross Country most recently finished sixth in the Iowa Conference Championships out of nine teams. The Spartans have been led this season by senior Fabiola Ortiz who finished second n the IIAC Championships out of 135 total runners. Ortiz finished second with a time of 22:05.4, which is the fastest time of her career and besting her own school record by a staggering 20 seconds. Ortiz performance earned her a school record, but IIAC All-Conference honors.  

The University of Dubuque Men’s Cross Country finished seventh out of nine teams in the Iowa Conference Championship. Junior Alec Bass set the pace for the Spartans and finished second individually out of 178 total runners. Bass earned IIAC All-Conference honors and finished the IIAC Championships in a time of 25.15.3, a season best and only one second behind the UD school record. Bass topped his previous career high of 26:16, which was second on the school record list. Dalton Moore finished 69th overall for UD with a time of 27:34.6, which was a season and career best for the freshman.

10:30 a.m. First gun fired (30 minutes to start of women's race)
10:35 a.m. National anthem
10:40 a.m. Second gun fired (20 minutes to start of women's race)
  Women's competitors must report to assigned boxes.
  End clerking procedure for women.
  Clerking procedure begins for men's race
       (clerking time is 10:40-11:40 a.m.)
10:50 a.m. Third gun fired (10 minutes to start of women's race)
11:00 a.m. Women's 6,000-meter championship race
11:30 a.m. First gun fired (30 minutes to start of men's race)
11:40 a.m. Second gun fired (20 minutes to start of men's race)
  Men's competitors must report to assigned boxes.
  End men's clerking procedure
11:50 a.m. Third gun fired (10 minutes to start of men's race)
12:00 p.m. Men's 8,000-meter championship race
1:15 p.m. Awards ceremony (location: inside Rec Center)

 

DRIVING DIRECTIONS to Carleton Recreation Center

  • Take I-35 to Exit 69 (MN Hwy 19)
  • Go east approximately 7 miles to intersection of MN Hwy 19 and MN Hwy 3
  • Turn left at stoplight and go north on Hwy 19/3 for two blocks
  • Turn right at stoplight and go east on Hwy 19/Second Street over the river to next intersection (first stop sign)
  • Turn left on Hwy 19/Division St and go approximately 0.5 miles
  • Turn right onto Three Oaks Drive
