Kalkbrenner Named Outstanding Wrestler at Elmhurst Invite

ELMHURST, Ill. - The University of Dubuque wrestling team placed fourth in the 2017 Elmhurst Al Hanke Invitational on Saturday with 101.5 points.

The Spartans were led by Quincy Kalkbrenner (157 lbs.) named Outstanding Wrestler of the meet. He finished with two falls in a combined 4:49. Kalkbrenner won by a fall in 1:18 over Sam Rathburn (MSOE) in the first round. In the second round he won by a fall in 3:31 over Jacob Weaver (MSOE). Won 4-0 over Gunnar Hjorth of Elmhurst in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he won by a major decision over Chicago's Steven Bonsall 14-5. In the finals, he beat #1 seed Keone Derain by a 14-3 major decision to claim the title at 157 lbs. for the Spartans.

Teammates Jevontae Yarbrough (141 lbs.) collected two falls in 2:33 with his fastest being in :57. Ted Capporrino (174 lbs.) finished with one fall in 1:39, Cariel Beasley (285 lbs.) had a fall in 2:18, Mervyn Penniston (285 lbs.) earned a fall in 2:26, Cosmo Halwix (285 lbs.) stuck his opponent in 5:36, Blake Howerton (149 lbs.) captured a fall in 6:40.
