Spartans Rally In Fourth Quarter to Win At Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill.- The University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team went on the road Tuesday night and took down the Monmouth College Fighting Scotts, 7-5.

Monmouth wasted no time, jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead with a goal in the second minute of the game. However, UD did not wait long to even things up as Michael Jango found the back of the net in the fifth minute of action. Both offense’s had a hard time getting much offense going in the rest of the first quarter until Michael Jango scored with just 43 seconds remaining in the quarter. The Spartans were able to take a 4-2 lead into halftime before Monmouth scored the only three goals in the third quarter to take a 4-5 lead into the final quarter.

With 14:04 remaining, Joe Furnstahl found Michael Jango who was able to convert and score to even things up at five goals apiece. The game went 10 minutes without another goal until Josh Berry-Wingate scored for the Spartans to give them a 6-5 lead. Not even two minutes later Joe Furnstahl would score his second goal of the game and give the Spartans some room to breathe.

Kyle Mullins was very solid in the net for UD, playing all 60 minutes and collecting 12 saves. To go along with his two goals on four shots, Furnstahl also added an assist. Michael Jango was not to be outdone as he had two goals of his own.

The Spartans won 9-16 faceoffs on the evening, five wins coming from Josh Berry- Wingate and four for Brandon Jagitsch,

After five straight road contests, the Spartans finally return home on Friday night to take on University of Northwestern St. Paul at 7:00 p.m. at Oyen Field.
