Women's Basketball Open 2017 with Home Win Over Coe

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Women's basketball team pulled out a win 65-61 win on Wednesday night over conference rival Coe College. 

The Kohawks jumped out to a quick lead, leading 11-18 after the first quarter but the Spartans came storming out in the second quarter to outscore Coe 19-9 in the period and take a 30-27 lead into the break. UD once again outscored Coe by 10 points in the third quarter to expand the lead to 13 heading into the final period. The Kohawks kept clawing their way back, eventually cutting the Spartans lead to only two points late, but Abbey Meyer hit two free throws with five seconds left to put UD up four points and seal the game.

Eight different Spartans scored on the night, led by Emily Brinker with 15 points. Abbey Meyer and Morgan Boer were the only other two Spartans to reach double figures, with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Madison Boer provided a spark off the bench with eight points and collecting three steals in her 23 minutes of action. To go along with her 13 points and clutch free throws, Abbey Meyer was one rebound away from having a double-double by collecting nine rebounds for the game, dished out four assists and also grabbed four steals on the defensive end of the court to fill up the stat sheet. After not reaching the free throw line at all in the first half, the Spartans got to the charity stripe 12 times in the second half, knocking down nine of those. 

UD travels to Wartburg on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. game, before returning home to face Simpson on Wednesday, January 11th at 6:00 p.m.
