Women's Lacrosse Defeats Wartburg On Rainy Night

DUBUQUE, Iowa- For the third straight game, the University of Dubuque women's lacrosse team had to battle the wind and rain, this time taking down Wartburg College 9-5.

With the score tied at one in the sixth minute of action, Claire Carlson found the back of the net for UD to go ahead 2-1 and a lead that the Spartans would not relinquish the rest of the game. The Spartans scored five stright goals in the last 25 minutes of the first half to go into the break leading 6-1. Wartburg and UD alternated the goals for the whole second half, UD matching Wartburg minutes after they would score to maintain their lead and finish off the 9-5 win.

Claire Carlson and Ashlyn Ptasienski both recorded hat tricks, combining for six of UD's nine goals. Carlson's three goals came on the only three shots that she took on the night. The Spartans forced the Knights into 18 turnovers for the game and the Knights also recorded the only two penalties of the game.

After missing the last two games, Kaley Weir returned to the goal for the Spartans, allowing only five goals and stopping eight Knight shots. UD out Warburg 22-18 shots and also dominated the draw controls, winning 10 of 15.

UD travels to Kansas City on Saturday, April 1st, to take on Rockhurst University at 12:00 p.m.
