Join UDTS without seeking a Degree

Students seeking to complete graduate courses not part of a degree program my do so as unclassified students. Unclassified students do not need to meet formal admission requirements for degree programs. Unclassified students may be enrolled or have graduated from another ATS accredited seminary.

Who is considered an unclassified student?

  • Those who have not been admitted into a degree program but are permitted to begin studies without admission;
  • Those who do not meet formal requirements for admission into a degree program, but are permitted to take courses for purposes of personal growth;
  • Those who do not meet formal requirements for admission to a degree program, but are permitted to pursue a non-traditional program of study, with the recommendation of their sponsoring denomination and approval of the dean.
  • Those who are currently attending or have graduated from other ATS accredited seminaries and wish to supplement their studies with UDTS courses.

Application Items Required for Unclassified Application

  • Complete the unclassified student application.
  • Pay a non-refundable application fee of $30.
  • Provide a reference letter from a pastor.
  • Send official transcripts from the institution granting your highest degree.
  • Submit a report of academic standing if currently enrolled anywhere else as a student.
  • Provide a narrative statement indicating why you are interested in graduate level theological studies as an unclassified student.

Restrictions of Unclassified Students

  • Unclassified students may complete up to six credit hours per semester, three credit hours in August residency, or six credit hours during the summer term.
  • Unclassified student may earn a maximum of 21 credits in unclassified students. To continue beyond 21 credits, students must apply to a degree program.
