Women’s Soccer Headed to IIAC Championship Game

DECORAH, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team earned a repeat trip to the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship Game with a 1-0 win at Luther. Katie Lynn (Fox River Grove, Ill./Barrington) scored the game winner in the 64th minute as the Spartans and Norse battled temperatures in the low 30’s on Wednesday night. The UD victory set a new school record for wins in a season with 16! Dubuque is 16-4 on the year.

The Spartans and Luther played a scoreless first half with UD holding a 6-2 advantage in shots and 2-0 lead in shots on goal. Lynn and Lisa Rosas (Arcadia, Calif./Arcadia) recorded the Dubuque shots on goal.

After a pair of near misses in the first half, Lynn put UD ahead 1-0 with her seventh goal of the season. Melanie Prudhomme (Lakemoor, Ill./Wauconda) setup Lynn with a cross from near the endline through the Luther defense to the middle of the field. Lynn gathered the ball with her back to the defense, turned and shot back across the goal for the eventual game winner.

Tiffany Duncan (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) earned the win in goal with six saves including two in the last four minutes on shots from inside the box. The win for Duncan was her 16th of season, setting a new school record for single season wins.

Lynn and Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) each had a team high three shots in the contest. The UD defense extended its streak to 485 consecutive scoreless minutes and five straight shutouts.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will face #25 Loras College (16-3-1) in the IIAC Tournament Championship Game on Saturday, November 9th. Game time at the Rock Bowl is 5:00 pm. UD and Loras also played in the 2012 IIAC Championship Game.
