Giraldi Named Head Women’s and Men’s Tennis Coach

Dubuque, Iowa – Claudio Giraldi (C’11) has been named Head Women’s and Men’s Tennis Coach at the University of Dubuque, Director of Athletics Dan Runkle announced today.

"I am pleased to welcome Claudio to our coaching staff," commented Runkle. "Claudio was a leader for us on our men’s tennis team, and we look forward to him continuing to build a quality program for our men and women as they compete in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference."

Giraldi was a four-year letter winner and a member of the men’s tennis team for the University of Dubuque Spartans from 2007-2011. In high school, Giraldi was 2005 Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS) European Champion and runner-up in 2006 in tennis. He was a varsity soccer player and was a member of the 2006 DoDDS European Soccer Championship Team. He was named an All-Europe and All-Conference team honoree at SHAPE American High School.

“I’m excited to be involved as head coach,” commented Giraldi. “I’m looking forward to the challenges and making our men’s and women’s team successful in the competitive Iowa Conference. To be named head coach of the school I played for is an honor. I love the University of Dubuque, and I hope to transfer my enthusiasm to current and future student-athletes.”

Giraldi added, “My goal is to finish this season strong and retain current players by sharing my vision for the future of Spartan women’s and men’s tennis while motivating them. I believe in hard work, being positive, and working as a team. I will be giving as much as I expect to receive from them now and into the future.”

Giraldi is a native of Rome, Italy and learned to play tennis in Santa Marinella, Italy from coach Carlo Oroni. He was a graduate from SHAPE American High School in Mons, Belgium. He graduated from University of Dubuque in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in human resources and a minor in marketing. Giraldi received his master’s degree in Business Administration from University of Dubuque in 2013.
