Men's Cross Country at NCAA Division III Regionals

NORTHFIELD, MINNESOTA - The University of Dubuque Men's Cross Country team finished in 25th place of 26 teams at the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships, hosted by St. Olaf College. The Spartans top finisher on the 8,000 meter course was Payton Nevills (Savanna, Ill./West Carroll) in 62nd place overall at 26:43.32. A total of 181 runners competed on Saturday at the St. Olaf Course through campus. 

Host St. Olaf won the Central Region Men's Championship with a team score of 51. Junior Eli Horton of Central College was the Individual Men's Champion at 24:35.97.

Nevills cut 7.6 seconds off his previous best time to lead UD for the sixth time this season. Jordan Murray (DeWitt, Iowa/Central DeWitt) was the second Spartan across the finish line with a time of 28:34.62. Murray knocked 24.9 seconds off his fastest time of the year. 

Matt Zittritsch (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) was the third Spartan finisher in 137th place at 28:44.12. Blair Burdt (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) took 150th overall at 29:24.72. Each of the Spartans top-four finishers were sophomores.

Freshman Jonathan Berland (Lime Springs, Iowa/Crestwood) was the fifth scorer for UD at 31:33.97 and 175th place. Senior Luke Elsbernd (Calmar, Iowa/South Winn) took 8.6 seconds off his season low in his final race as a Spartan.
