UD Women's Track Place 2nd at Wartburg Relays

WAVERLY, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Track and Field team opened the 2014 season at the Wartburg Relays on Friday night. The Spartans took second place (of 5 teams) with a total of 94 points. UD won four events while setting a school record in the 1,600M Sprint Medley. The Spartan men also finished in second place with 110 points.

The 1,600m Spring Medley relay team of Tieisha Starks (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan), Jamyia Catchings (Pavle Forest, Ill./Bloom Trail), Nickolette McKenzie (Hoffman Estates, Ill./William Fremd), and Rachael Busjahn (Sobieksi, Wis./Pulaski) won with a time of 4:28.36. The Spartans also won the 4x200m Relay in 1:51.32 with Busjahn, Brittany Burns (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Memorial), Amanda Zbilski (Huntley, Ill./Huntley), and Kim Trinco (Schaumberg, Ill./JB Conant) teaming up for the victory.

McKenzie also earned a First Place finish in the Triple Jump with a leap of 10.88m/35' 8" and a runner-up finish in the Long Jump at 5.10m/16' 8". Catchings took third in the Long Jump at 4.94m/16' 4" as UD went 2-3 in the Long Jump. 

Alexis Higgins (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) won the High Jump with a final jump of 1.62m/5' 4" to open her season on a high note.

A Spartans newcomer, Valcin made an immediate impact earning wins in the Pole Vault and 60m Dash (7.03 seconds) while also running the third leg of the 1,600m Sprint Medley that finished in First Place. The Sprint Medley team of Antwone Lindsey (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport), Evan Zurbuchen (Hollandale, Wis./Madison West), Valcin, and Remington Meggers (DeWitt, Iowa/Central DeWitt) won with a time of 3:50.70. Zurbuchen also earned a First Place finish in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.61 seconds. 

The fifth win for UD came from Kebba Bojang (Madison, Wis./Madison East) in the Triple Jump. Bojang jumped 13.50m/44' 4" to earn the victory.

A pair of Spartans picked up Third Place finishes with Lindsey taking third in the Long Jump and Nicholas Kazmierczak (Lodi, Wis./Lodi) in the Pole Vault.
