Men's Basketball Stunned by #6 Seed

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque #2-seeded men's basketball team lost to the #6-seeded Luther College Norse in the IIAC Tournament semi-finals by a 83-87 score. The Spartans led by as much as 18 points with eight minutes left, before the Norse shot their way back into the game. Luther made all eight of their final free throws with under four and a half minutes to play as the Spartans missed two out of three attempts at the line.

Luther led by no more than four points as the Spartans led for the better share of the contest. The lead swapped three times and the game was tied three times. UD out scored the Norse in the paint 32-24, led in second chance points 8-6, and garnered 30 points from their bench in the loss.

Three out of the five starters for the Spartans finished in double digit scoring with Andre Norris leading UD with 21 points, six rebounds and six assists. Chris Frazier added 16 points and Gage Heffernan added 14 points. Jacob Mohlis led the bench scoring with nine points after connecting on 3-4 attempts from behind the three point arc.

The Spartans mde 32-62 attempts from the field (51.6%), 12-22 three point area (54.5%), and 7-11 at the free throw line (63.6%). The norse sank 30-58 attempts from the field (51.7%), 12=27 three point attempts (44.4%), and 15-17 free throw attempts (88.2%).

The Spartans are 21-5 overall and the Norse improved to 17-10 overall and will face the Central Dutch in the IIAC Tournament Championship on Saturday in Pella.
