Spartans Surpass 2013 Goal Total in Loss to Aurora

AURORA, ILLINOIS - The University of Dubuque Women's Lacrosse team surpassed its 2013 goal total in five less games as they upped their total to 43 on the season. The Spartans 12-6 loss to Aurora University (2-6, 1-2 MWLC) on Saturday moved their Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference record to 0-4 and 0-7 overall. 

Judy Borah (Mammoth Lakes, Calif./Pacific Palisades Charter) led UD with three goals on six shots. The Spartans took a 2-1 lead at the 18:12 mark of the first half when Borah assisted on a Bridget Schirmers (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) goal. After a pair of Aurora goals, UD tied the game once again at 3-3 when Robyn Wittkopf (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) scored unassisted. Aurora scored two more goals in the first period to take a 5-3 lead into halftime.

Aurora scored the first four goals of the second half to take a 9-3 lead with under seven minutes to play. Schirmers and Borah scored back-to-back goals as UD attempted to claw back into the game. 

The Spartans forced 22 turnovers while only commiting 19 to hold the turnover advantage. Nicole Pacheco (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail) picked up a team high five groundballs.

Danielle Williams (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) took the loss in net with seven saves and 12 goals allowed. 

UP NEXT: The Spartans travel to Clayton, Mo. for two games next weekend. UD plays Fontbonne on Friday, April 11th at 7:00 pm. Dubuque then plays the University of Dallas (at Fontbonne) on Saturday, April 12th.
