Spartan Softball Swept on the Road

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The University of Dubuque softball team were looking to bounce back after a pair of hard fought losses to #12-ranked Coe College this past Saturday. Monday proved to be challenging when they faced UW-Whitewater on their home turf, losing the opener 6-10 and 0-9 in game two.
The Spartans broke the game open in the first inning of game 1 on a two run homerun by Amber Meyer. UD held the lead through three innings before the host Warhawks used a six run, seven hits third inning to take their first lead 6-3. UD rallied in the top of the fourth to score three runs on three hits. Gianna Kuras doubled to right center field collecting two RBI's after scoring teammates Tori Woltz and Hannah Koerperich with two outs.
Th Warhawks held the Spartans scoreless in the final three innings. UD finished the game with six runs on seven hits and committed two errors.

The Warhawks pitching in game two held the Spartans to only one hit in the nightcap. Koerperich singled to third base in the fourth inning would break-up the potential no-hitter. The contest ended in the fifth inning with the Spartans getting no runs, on one hit and made one error in the loss. The Spartans allowed nine runs on nine hits.

The Spartans (15-9 overall, 2-2 in IIAC) continue their tough schedule on Wednesday, April 9 when UD hosts the #5-ranked Luther College Norse (16-3 overall, 1-1 in IIAC) at 3:00 p.m. The Norse will play a re-scheduled game Vs. Central on Tuesday, April 8 in Decorah at 3:00 p.m.
