Norris Claims Men’s Basketball’s First IIAC Player of the Week Honor

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Junior Andre Norris was an all-around threat for the University of Dubuque men’s basketball team after leading the Spartans to a 2-0 record in the Northwestern ACR Homes Tip-Off Classic this past week. Norris’ efforts earned him the first men’s basketball Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) player of the week award of the season.

Norris posted averages of 16.5 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two steals while shooting 65% from the field in the pair of wins over North Central University (Minn.) and University of Northwestern-St. Paul. Norris has helped the Spartans to a 4-0 record on the year and has tallied two double-doubles on the season.

Norris collected 17 points and 13 rebounds in a convincing win over North Central University (Minn.), 68-57. The Spartans grabbed a 13-point halftime lead thanks to 13 points and eight rebounds from Norris in the first half. Norris would stay active early in the second as UD extended their lead to 30 points.

It was a balanced attack from Norris against the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) after scoring eight points in the first and eight points in the second half. Despite Norris’ efficient first half (eight points on three shots), the Spartans would go into the half down three points. A pair of layups and some timely rebounds by Norris capped a decisive run by the Spartans midway through the second. UD built a lead they would not relinquish as they won, 79-67.

The Plainfield, Ill. native is off to a fast start and leads the Iowa Conference in minutes played (33 mpg) and steals (2.5) while ranking second in rebounding (10.8), third in scoring (17.5), fourth in blocks (1.5), and sixth in assists (3.25). Norris is the second-leading scorer in the IIAC

Norris and his fellow Spartan teammates take a road trip for a two-day Colorado College tournament starting this Friday, November 28 against Willamette University (Ore.).
