DUBUQUE, Iowa – Gage Heffernan’s MVP performance led the University of Dubuque men’s basketball team to the Colorado College Thanksgiving Tournament title, an unblemished 6-0 record (receiving votes in D3hoops.com Top 25), and UD’s first 2014-15 IIAC (Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) Athlete of the Week award.

Heffernan was a force to be reckoned with in the tournament championship game after scoring a season-high 28 points on 9 of 14 shooting, grabbing nine rebounds, and swiping six steals against host Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo. Sporting a narrow three-point lead with 1:51 remaining, Heffernan scored the next four points to pad the Spartan lead as the undefeated squad escaped with a 77-68 victory.

Heffernan totaled nine points, four assists, two steals, and a season-high 12 rebounds in a rout of Willamette University (Ore.), 83-60, in the semifinal round of the four-team Colorado College tournament. Heffernan’s two-game averages of 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.0 steals on 12 of 23 shooting (52.2%) earned him tournament MVP honors.
