Men's Golf Tied for 2nd After 54 Holes of IIAC Championships

May 1, 2015
PEOSTA, Iowa - Pleasant conditions at Thunder Hills Country Club led to low scores Friday as players completed rounds two and three at the 2015 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Men's Golf Championship.

Forced to play 36 holes in one day for possibly the first time in the nearly 70-year history of the championship, Central (307-291-296--894) posted two sub-300 rounds to extend its lead to 26 strokes over both Simpson (321-297-302--920) and Dubuque (314-304-302--920). Wartburg (320-302-300--922) sits fourth, just two strokes back of the Storm and Spartans and four strokes clear of Luther (329-300-297--926). Buena Vista (319-314-311--944), Loras (323-322-307--952) and Coe (350-330-315--995) round out the team scores.

On a day when many players flirted with par, four players matched the number and one bettered it. Central's Desmond Stoll accounted for two of those rounds. He had four birdies in each round, carding a 71 in the morning and a 70 in the afternoon and sits at 3-over 217 (76-71-70) for the tournament. Stoll is six strokes clear of a group of five players at 9-over 223 -- Buena Vista'sJohn Bral (75-77-71), Coe's Tyler Gunderson (75-76-72), Dubuque's Josh Schuberg (78-73-72), Luther's Peter Kephart (77-75-71) and Simpson's Andy Hutchins (77-72-74).

Central's Adam Squires (75-72-77) is seventh at 10-over 224, while teammate Jon Prescott (81-73-71) is eighth at 11-over 225 and Wartburg's Michael Canfield (78-76-72) is ninth at 12-over 226. Dubuque's Troy Krueger (79-75-73) and Simpson's Trent Lindenman (79-72-76) are tied for 10th at 13-over 227.

Saturday's final round will begin at 11 a.m. with players from Loras and Coe teeing off in the initial wave. Players from Wartburg, Luther and Buena Vista will comprise the second wave with No. 5 players going off the No. 1 tee at approximately 11:40 a.m. The final wave, with players from Central, Simpson and Dubuque, is slated to begin at roughly 12:20 p.m.
