Men's Tennis Falls 5-4 in IIAC Opener

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's tennis team racked up three individual wins, but narrowly fell to Buena Vista, 5-4, in both teams' Iowa Conference opener and later fell to Augustana (S.D), 9-0, on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans (2-8, 0-1 Iowa Conference) saw a comeback win from No. 2 Matthew Sablay, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 and a pair of sweeps by No. 3 Ranfer Hernandez, 7-6 (3), 6-4, and No. 4 Jordan Hamling, 6-4, 6-3. Sablay and Hernandez teamed up for a convincing 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. Hernandez leads the team with five individual victories and two doubles victories with Sablay.
vs. Augustana (S.D.)
UD faced Division II's Augustana University out of South Dakota and fell, 9-0. The Spartans won 17 total games in defeat.
UD will head to Orlando, Fla. for their 3-match spring break trip from March 14-16.
