Day 1 Recap
STORM LAKE, Iowa – Senior Nicole Forson placed second in the weight throw and the 4x800m relay squad of Fabiola Ortiz, Kayla Kinateder, Kiersten Wenthold, and Skylar Brooks finished runner-up to highlight the final day as the University of Dubuque women’s track and field team placed fourth at the Iowa Conference Indoor Championships.

The Spartans totaled six All-Iowa Conference performances, including three combined by throwers Tanasha Atwater and Forson, to rack up 82 points. UD finished in the Top-4 for the third straight season. Wartburg won the team title with 216 points and outpaced the field by 97 points.

Forson secured her third All-Iowa Conference performance with a runner-up showing in the weight throw with a toss of 15.61m/51-2.75. Atwater, who won the shot put a day earlier, placed third after a 15.10m/49-6.5 mark. It ended her eight event winning streak, but she has still won 13 of 16 events this season and is Top-20 nationally in both shot put and weight throw.

The Spartan throwers accumulated 40 of the Spartans’ 82 points with seven, Top-6 combined performances in the shot put and weight throw.

Ortiz led off the 4x800m relay and teamed up with Kinateder, Wenthold, and Brooks to finish second with a time of 10:00.62 and set a new school record by nearly 21 seconds. Ortiz had earlier claimed her second All-Iowa Conference performance with second-place time of 5:11.78 in the mile.

Freshman Isabella Solis notched her third, Top-7 performance in her first championships with a sixth-place showing in the high jump (1.49m/4-10.5).

The Spartans will head to the UW-Platteville Last Chance meet on Saturday, March 4 followed by the UW-Stevens Point Pointer Qualifier on Sunday, March 5 to improve their national marks and a potential shot at the NCAA Division III Championships on March 11-12 in Grinnell, Iowa.
