Softball Drops Pair to Open Season in Minnesota

ROCHESTER, Minn. - The University of Dubuque mustered five hits and fell to St. Catherine University, 5-0, and College of St. Benedict, 7-6, in their season opener in the Rochester Dome on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans (0-1) got one hit each out of their top-3 hitters, but finished 5-of-26 (.192) on the day with 10 strikeouts in defeat. St. Catherine's Lindenfelser started opposite Spartan starter, junior Megan Schlueter, and took credit for the win in a complete game of 7.0 innings.

Schlueter (0-1) lasted three innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs in defeat. Freshman Taylor Blair tossed the last three innings of relief for UD and allowed four hits and one earned run in her first stint in the blue and white.

St. Catherine's (1-0) offense generated nine hits and jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three innings. They capped their scoring with a two-run, bottom of the sixth. It was the first meeting between the two teams.

UD fell to College of St. Benedict, 7-6, on Saturday night and dropped to 0-3 in the all-time series.

The Spartans head back to the Rochester Dome Games, hosted by Luther, next Saturday and Sunday, March 4 and 5, for a doubleheader each day.
