Wrestling Drops Season Opener to Pioneers

Elton Turnage captured the Spartans only fall on Wednesday night against UW-Platteville. He pinned UW-P's Cody Meyer in 22 seconds.
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Despite wins from Adrian Collier, Alek Aragon, and Elton Turnage, the University of Dubuque wrestling team fell to UW-Platteville, 24-13, in the Spartans season opener.
157 lb. Collier won by major decision, 12-4, thanks to a late takedown in the third period, 165 lb. Aragon was victorious, 4-2, after an early takedown in the third, and 184 lb. Turnage won by fall in 22 seconds. All three improved to 1-0 on the season.
Turnage's win sliced the Pioneer lead to 17-13 with two matches to go, but the Spartans couldn't capitalize.
Spartans head to Mequon, Wis. for the Concordia Open this Saturday, November 21 at 9:00 a.m.
