Spartans Can't Contain Dukhawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa- The University of Dubuque women's basketball team lost 66-95 to the Loras Duhawks on Saturday afternoon.

On the trip across University Avenue, the Spartans fell behind early to the redhot shooting Duhawks, and could not quite get back into it as the Duhawks would not cool off at any point. Loras shot 34-68 (50%) on the afternoon and also connected on 9-20 (45%) three point attempts. UD still managed to shoot 46.8% from the field, but had 21 less shot attempts than Loras.

Emily Brinker led the Spartans offensively as she had 16 points on 6-11 shooting. Brinker also led the team in rebounds, grabbing seven of the team's 23. Kia Dwight provided a spartk off the bench for UD, as she collected 13 points on 5-6 shooting, while also dishing out two assists.

A big difference in this game came on the glass, as the Spartans were out rebounded 23-39 and 3-16 on the offensive glass, which led to 17 second chance points for the Duhawks. A bright spot for UD is that they were able to get to the free throw line 18 times on the afternoon, making 16 of them for 88.9%. Allie Biermeier and Abbey Meyer were the two other Spartans to reach double figures in points tonight with 12 and 10 points, respectively. 

The Spartans have a busy week ahead, starting with a quick turnaround as they host Luther College on Monday night at 6:00. The game was originally scheduled for last Monday (1/16) but was postponed due to bad weather. They also play host to Central College on Wednesday night and Buena Vista University on Saturday afternoon. All three games will be at the Stoltz Sports Center.
