Women's Soccer Rally for 3-1 Victory on the Road

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer squad fell behind early in the match on Tuesday afternoon, but knotted the game at 1-1 at halftime. The final 45 minutes belonged to the Spartans who dropped in two goals in the second half to capture their first win of the season by a 3-1 score over the host Cornell College Rams.

Lexus Rose scored the Spartans game tying goal on a penalty kick at 34:43. Both teams began the second half with string defensive efforts before UD broke the game open with a goal by Shelby Nicholson at 77:30 off an assist by Brianna Burkhart to take their first lead of the day. The Spartans added an insurance goal at 82:13 by Harleigh Lewis off an assist by Lauren Cangelosi to extend the score to 3-1.

UD ended the day with 10 shots with eight being on goal. Goal keep Megan Moll collected five saves in 71:52 to capture the win in the net. The Spartans improved to 1-2 overall.
