Burks and Thomas Named IIAC Athletes of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Brittany Burks and Kyle Thomas from the University of Dubuque track and field teams, have been named Iowa Conference Female and Male Track Performers of of the Week, as well as Iowa Conference Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

In her first meet of indoor season, Brittany Burks (Madison, Wis./Madison Memorial) won the 60m hurdles in a blazing time of 9.05 seconds, which is the top time in the Iowa Conference and a top 10 time in NCAA Division III. Burks also took third place in the 200m dash with a time of 27.08 and placed fourth in the pole vault in route to a first place team finish for the Spartan women at the UW-Platteville Select.

Kyle Tomas (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley) competed in two events on back to back days last week. On Friday, Thomas qualified for the finals of the 60m dash at the Jack Jennett Open, competing against Division I competition. On Saturday, Thomas won both the 60m dash and 200m dash at the UW-Platteville Select. His time of 6.94 seconds in the 60m dash was a personal best and ranks first in the Iowa Conference and a top 10 time in all of Division III. This is the second time this season that Thomas has won Male Track Performer of the Week.  

The UD track and field teams are at the Wartburg College Select on Saturday, February 3rd.
