Busy Weekend for Men's Soccer

MONMOUTH/BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The University of Dubuque men’s soccer team hit the road for the first time this season and suffered their first loss of the year in a 3-1 defeat to Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday and won 3-2 over Monmouth on Sunday.

How it Happend
-The Spartans came out on the attack from the get go as Edvin Loefren scored in the fourth minute.
-UD would not let off the pedal, scoring two more goals before the game was eight minutes old.
-Monmouth got one of the goals back shortly after in the 11th minute
-Monmouth closed out the scoring in the first half in the 30th minute to make it 3-2 in favor of the Spartans going into the break.
-After a combined nine shots and five goals in the first half from both teams the defense's settled in and there were only four combined shots in the second half.
-In a physical game, there were four yellow cards handed out and one red card.

-Goalies: Brandon White (2 goals allowed, 0 saves, 45:00), Pat Openchowski (0 goals allowed, 0 saves, 45:00)
Scorers: Edvin Loefren (3:18, assisted by Matheus Dos Santos), Cameron Scott (6:25), Chris Rigby (7:36)
-Kyle Klatka, Kamrin Pegues and Dominik Chece all received yellow cards
-besides the two goals, the Spartans allowed no other shots on goal
 
For Monmouth
Goalies: Chase Stroud (3 goals allowed, 1 save, 90:00)

How it Happened
-Illinois Wesleyan struck first early in the eighth minute with a goal from Doug Ballard after a deflection
-Illinois Welseyan would add two more goals before halftime in the 27th and 40th minutes
-Edvin Loefren got UD on the board in the 59th minute off a free kick from Chris Rigby
-UD was outshot 21-9
-Chris Rigby and Edvin Loefren each attempted three shots for the Spartans
