CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Four University of Dubuque student-athletes were voted Iowa Conference Performers of the Week. Kellen Mitchell grabbed Baseball Position POW honors, while Kyle Thomas, Maurice Cushion-Lewis and Rebecca Burmahl all were honored for their performances in track and field.

Kellen Mitchell, a freshman from Batavia, Illinois, hit .615 in UD’s four win week that led to an Iowa Conference Regular Season Title. To go along with his .615 average, Mitchell had six RBIs, seven runs scored, hit three triples, one double and walked four times. Mitchell joins Chase Kueter and Dalton Garst as the third Spartan to be named IIAC Player of the Week.

Rebecca Burmahl (Junior, Monticello, Iowa) was voted IIAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season (4/22). Burmahl continued to dominate in the hammer throw, this time taking the hammer throw title at the Dr. Tucker Open with a toss of 53.02m. That throw is a new personal best and pushed her into NCAA qualifying position and 12th in the nation. It is the fourth straight week that a Spartan woman has been named IIAC Field Athlete of the Week (Abby Willis (4/15, Tanasha Atwater (4/29)).

Maurice Cushion-Lewis and Kyle Thomas swept the Men’s Track and Field Performer of the Week honors, with Cushion-Lewis on the field side and Thomas on the track.  Cushion-Lewis (Sophomore, Social Circle, Ga.) won the long jump at the Dr. Tucker Open on May 4th with a personal best jump of 7.16m. That jump is also good enough to put him in the top 25 in Division III. Thomas (Freshman, Spring Green, Wis.), blew past the competition at the Dr. Tucker Open, winning the 100m dash in a personal best time of 10.71m.
