Men's Basketball Keep Hope Alive for Final IIAC Tournament Spot

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team kept hope alive for the final IIAC Tournament Qualifying spot with a 84-71 home victory over the Luther College Norse on Wednesday night in Stoltz Sports Center. 

Marcus McDaniel set the pace for the Spartans with 17 first half points and he led UD with 24 points in 34 minutes of action. Michael Williams would be the only other double digit scorer with 11 points and seven rebounds. The pace of the game was slowed by 47 fouls called in the contest (24 for Luther and 23 for UD). Luther sank 15-19 free throw attempts and UD made 19-26 free throws. The Spartans dominated the boards out rebounding the Norse 53-35. Jarrett Easton grabbed 11 rebounds to lead both sides.

The win kept the Norse winless in the IIAC at 0-15 and 5-19 overall. The Spartans improved to 7-8 in league play and 15-9 overall. The Spartans are tied with Central at 7-8 for the final spot in the 2018 IIAC Tourney which begins next week.

UD will host the Loras College Duhawks (11-4, 18-6 overall) on Saturday on senior day for the Spartans.
