Men's Lacrosse Picks Up Win on Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse lacrosse team did not let the rain and sleet bother them on Saturday afternoon, as they picked up a 13-4 win over Carroll University for their first conference win of the season.

After falling behind 1-0 the opening 90 seconds, the Spartans would answer with three straight goals and seven of the next eight goals. Tanner Weis began the rally when he found the back of the net at the 12:03 mark for his 11th of the season. Joe Furnstahl would tally his fifth and sixth goals of the season before the end of the first quarter to put UD up 3-1.

A late first quarter goal made it 3-2 in favor of the Spartans heading into the second quarter but UD took control of the game from then on, outscoring the Pioneers 4-0 in the second quarter. Three different Spartans recorded a goal in the quarter, two coming from Davis Behrns and one from Ben Gallagher and Michael Jango for a 7-2 halftime lead.

As the rain and sleet picked up in the second half, UD would go on to outscore Carroll 6-2 in the half, including a 4-1 fourth quarter.

On Senior Day, Kyle Mullins, one of three seniors, came up with seven saves in three quarters of action to pick up the win. On the afternoon, six different Spartans scored a goal. Michael Jango and Tanner Weis led the way as both recorded a hat trick for a combined six goals against the Pioneers. Ben Gallagher, Davis Behrns and Joe Furnstahl each left their mark as they all score two goals each. Gallagher added four assists to go along with his two goals.

Up next for the Spartans, they travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin on April 21st to take on Carthage College at 12:00 p.m.
